I just got back from my friend-date and we talked Dave Ramsey for a little while (she and her husband already follow the plan). As we talked, I realized that I'm really ready. It's not that I hate debt as much as it is needing those bills out of my brain. Obligation, in this case our debt, is taking up too much mental space. It's utilizing my resources in a way that I'm no longer comfortable with. I desperately need to reduce the clutter in our lives and that, more than hating debt, is what motivates me right now. Our debts are basically clutter, right? I think that's why I find the debt snowball so appealing. Like with my kitchen, I need something small. Those few drawers made it possible for me to even consider clearing this section of counter. It might not look like much, but there are PILES of papers under those binders and I discovered midway through that the shredder was jammed beyond recognition. Blech.

I've since cleaned up our mailbox area more so that it functions better. My hope is that paying the bills electronically will help to keep the clutter down in this area permanently. I also added a little extra to our smallest debt payment that I made today. We're not in a position to throw all our savings at the little student loan, but it was nice to add a few extra dollars.

P.S. Blogger? Could your photo formatting feature suck just a little bit more?
What a change!!! I love it! I am a big fan of before and after pictures. I think we (especially moms) need to see progress on paper.
ReplyDeleteAnd... if you get bored, you're welcome here any time. I have lots of piles!
