Moving on!

After spending (literally) hours with the PearBudget spreadsheet I'm opting for the web-based program. The simplification is well worth the $3/month! :)

We have been re-evaluating our goals. When we first listened to the Dave Ramsey CDs a year ago, the thought of having just $1000 between us and an emergency was unsettling but doable. Now that we've been through a lay-off during the worst recession in decades I know neither of us is comfortable with that. Dave might disagree, but he doesn't live here. We do and we are going to do what it takes to eliminate our debt without stress ulcers! :)

We've always had $1000 or so in a CD that we just don't touch... we have been slowly growing an emergency fund without any planning for our entire marriage. We're going to keep that money just where it is... it's our emergency fund's emergency fund if you will. We're also going to close everything but one savings account and one checking account and build up enough money for 1 month of expenses. It's more than what DR would recommend, but with our current expenses $1000 just wouldn't cut it if we suddenly lost all our income.

So that's on the list for Monday. We spent today putting in some plants in the front yard and cleaning up the back yard as much as possible before the rain started. I made a meal to have in the crockpot next week and we're going to try a new recipe tonight. I thought I would be frustrated not being able to try new things during the week, but it's been a lifesaver. I try new stuff on the weekends and we have our old standby's during the week. If a weekend recipe is a hit, I throw it into the weeknight mix.
